Information

Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven learning. Our goal is to help students develop intellectual skills and abilities to become self-directed learners for lifelong success well beyond their college years. We want you to become agile and able to reinvent yourself, to find ways of doing things differently, and better. And to seize opportunities as they unfold—anytime, anywhere.

We offer hundreds of programs, many of them interdisciplinary, leading to degrees from Bachelor’s through the Doctorate in nine academic colleges and schools.

At Northeastern, experience is our essence and ethos. Our flexible and guided education allows you to combine classroom study with work and research opportunities within companies and organizations in the fields of your study—deepening your knowledge with real-world competencies.  Our world-renowned co-op program provides all students with opportunities to engage in a full-time professional employment of 4- to 8-months at a time.  Over 3,000 companies and organizations - Fortune 500 companies and start-ups, universities, government agencies, nonprofits, and global organizations - in over 130 countries offer co-op positions to Northeastern students, with over 11,000 placements every year. The co-op program is open to international students. Because it’s part of the academic study, international students are extended this opportunity through the Curriculum Practical Training (CPT).

As a Tier-1 research university we focus on uncovering solutions to global challenges in the areas of health, security, and sustainability. Northeastern is a founding member in international and regional academic-industry consortia in human health, cybersecurity and high-performance computing. By emphasizing and investing in collaborative, interdisciplinary research, we create new capabilities in emerging areas like network science, experiential AI, brain imaging, and global resiliency, where bold new configurations are required to translate fundamental discoveries into real-world applications.

Our flagship campus in Boston, Massachusetts, is a green oasis in the heart of a major city and is classified as Arboretum. Our growing global university network spans campuses in Charlotte, NC; Portland, ME; San Francisco and Silicon Valley, CA, Seattle, WA; Toronto and Vancouver in Canada; and London, UK.  Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.
